Abstract

The granulite facies rocks of the Lower Austrian Moldanubian Zone of the Bohemian Massif were formed under conditions of the earth's lower crust. The U contents lie below 0.4 ppm. The rocks are also characterized by low Th contents (<3 ppm), although in some cases Th is higher in biotite-rich layers of banded granulites, which could be explained as a primary feature. Marginal parts of the granulite facies complexes occasionally exhibit retrograded U enrichments. The K contents of the granulites are generally lower than in the surrounding rock types of similar mineralogical composition (Gfohl gneisses).
