Abstract

Size and shape of the crater produced by laser action are determined by the properties of the sample material as well as by the parameters of the laser radiation. With the help of an experimental laser set up as used for spectrochemical local analysis the dependence of crater dimensions and forms on laser radiation energy and on the mode of Laser operation has been investigated. The results are discussed and compared with theoretical evaporation models which had been developed by a number of authors. In the present investigation the effect of reflexion of laser light by the evaporating sample surface has especially been taken into account.
