Abstract
In recent years there has been a continuous effort in constructing different types of 2-mm lasers (especially CW and pulsed fiber lasers) because of very broad application area, particularly for medical purposes [1]. Development of laser technologies promotes to increase the use of laser systems in various fields of medicine. Thus, in urology [2], otorhinolaryngologic surgery [3], and orthopedics [4], holmium solid-state lasers are widely used [5]. However, we can note several disadvantages of them. Holmium solid-state lasers operate only in a pulse mode with high-energy long pulse generation and with repetition rate less than 20 Hz. It is obvious that the other modes of laser operation are required in many cases under the existing diversity of pathologies. That can be provided by holmium fiber lasers. Modern technologies in the field of fiber optics allow us to design lasers with desired output parameters and operating modes. Thus, controlling the laser output radiation parameters, we can achieve the required effect of laser radiation exposure on some biological tissues.
