Abstract
Firstly, the paper deals with the protected areas in Brazil and their relationships with the Family-based agriculture impacts. Then, the paper focuses on its main aim that is to analyse the historical and legal trajectory of the Amapa State Forest (FLOTA/AP) creation. It is a Conservation Unity for sustainable use created by the 1,028/2006 Amapa state law and implemented from 2011 with establishment of its Board Advisory Council and also its Management Plan. The paper analysis emphasises the characterisation of the diverse population groups whom live inside the conservation unity and in its surrounding area. The paper also emphasises an understanding about the relationship between the conservation unity and Family-based agriculture. The study is based on documentary analysis; however, it makes some critical thinking based on participant observation due to participation of one of the authors’ paper on the job of the FLOTA/AP constitution.
