Abstract

We report a case of dropped head syndrome that developed after traumatic injury by hyperflexion of the cervical spine in a female Muay Thai boxer. The clinical presentation was dramatic as the patient was unable to maintain the head in an upright position. In this case, the dropped head syndrome was related to trauma-induced muscle injury. In accordance with the Quebec Task Force guidelines, this type of injury implies careful search for vertebral instability. In the event of an isolated injury, the outcome is favorable with adequate cervical immobilization with a rigid cervical collar.
