Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper is directed at the field engineer whose responsibility is to select a proper electrical submersible pump for a given well condition. This paper develops graphic representations of the demands placed on the pump, and shows how the major pump design parameters affect the pumpperformance. By understanding the basic conceptsin pump selection, the engineer will also be able to understand and predict the change in pump performance as well conditions change. This paperalso discusses methods of modifying pump performance of an installed ESP in order that the pump approach optimum pumping conditions and will review these techniques in light of their effects on the pump itself.
