Abstract
Synopsis The author develops his argument in contrast to the utilitarian vision of human beings in society. He starts his reflection at the historical and religious roots in order to point the importance of confessional educational institutions as spaces of criticism and real transformation. This text was presented during the IV Pedagogical Congress of the Latin American Association of Methodist Institutions of Education -ALAIME - held in Panama City on August 2006.
