Abstract
The interpretation of the act of ἐμβάτευσις, suggested by L. Gernet in Droit et prédroit en Grèce ancienne, could explain Alc. fr. 129,21-24 V. Indeed, it is possible to give the verb ἐπεμβαίνω the ritual value of ‘ stepping upon’ on sacred objects : this action would signify penetrating into a domain that is religiously qualified.
