Abstract

Abstract This study of the glass industry in France in the middle of the 19th century lays on the analysis of some Offices inquiries, conserved in the Archives nationales and on the printed inquiries found in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. The data are always dealt with, totaly. This statistic approach ables us to make a macro-economic study of glass-industry and renews their knowledge up till now which was too much partial and fragmented. It lightens up the transitional aspect of the industrial area and confirms the hypothesis of a specific way of industrialization in the France of the 19th century, which are also put forward by other economic history studies.
