Abstract

This paper presents the experimental work designed on electron microscopic level to study pathomorphological changes in L2-S1 spinal root ganglia under the influence of Paclitaxel. This antitumor chemical drug was administered intraperitoneally with the total dose of 8 mg/kg of body weight to 35 random bred rats and investigated within 120 days of the experiment. The dynamics of experimental peripheral neuropathy found ultramicroscopic disorders of perikaryons (vacuolated transformation of mitochondria with destruction of cristae and contours, expansion of rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum cisterns and elements of the Golgi apparatus, increased number of lysosomes) and nuclei (deformation of nuclear envelope, multifocal nucleolar segregation) of pseudounipolar neurons. These data are indicative of a significant role of structural changes in neurons of the spinal ganglia during the development of paclitaxel - induced neuropathy.
