Abstract

Ultrasonic absorption measurements have been carried out on Th(NO 3) 4 solutions in water as a function of thorium(IV) and NO 3 − concentrations and pH. Only a single relaxation occurs in each Th(NO 3) 4 solution, attributed to complexation between Th(IV) and NO 3 −. The effect of complexation is discussed in terms of literature models involving hydrolysis equilibria and osmotic pressure measurements.
