Abstract

Solder preforms, which are manufactured shapes of solder metals designed to fit a specific joint configuration, come in a variety of shapes and sizes. This study will explain the primary-shaped preforms such as discs, washers, squares, rectangles, and frames. Not so common shapes such as tubes, cut wire, integrated preforms, and special or irregular shapes, which are used in a variety of applications, will also be discussed. In this study, the difficulty of high ratios between the thickness of the preform and the relative key parameters like wall thickness, narrow “joints/spaces”, and the different alloy groups will also be discussed.
