Abstract

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the speech behavior of Ukrainian and English speakers on the social network Twitter. The specifics of Twitter as a social network and the main speech genre – tweet are characterized. A comparison of the frequency of network activity of Ukrainian and English speakers on Twitter is presented. A comparison of the speech behavior of users on Twitter and Facebook. The structural, semantic and linguo-pragmatic parameters of tweets in the Ukrainian-language and English-language communicative environment are determined. English-language tweeting has been shown to be highly subjective and based on communicative strategies of argumentation and discrediting; Ukrainian-language tweeting tends to involve ritual genres and self-presentation strategies as a priority.
