Abstract

This chapter describes the historical development and current status of teaching in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Turkey. It provides a profile of teachers and lecturers and their educational practices. The authors begin with a history of the development of the TVET teaching profession, which is divided into two main periods in modern Turkey, the Ottoman and the Republican. The following topics are then covered: teacher programs for vocational and technical schools; teacher training programs; the development of teacher professional associations; fields of employment and occupational profiles and qualifications in TVET; the practise of teaching and professional reality within TVET institutions; and future perspectives on professionalisation.
