Abstract

Sixteen resonances were observed in the reaction 28Si(α, γ)32S in the range Eα= 4.2–6.0 MeV. Spins and parities have been determined by angular distribution and correlation measurements. The lifetime of the 4.29 MeV levels of 32S was deduced from a Doppler-shift attenuation measurement as τm = 94±30 fs. The transition strengths, deduced from measured resonance strengths and branching ratios, exhibit the expected inhibition of dipole transitions in self-conjugated nuclei.
