Abstract

A lot of studies aim to decrease the size of particles to the nanoscale, leading the material to a modification of its intrinsic properties. Here, we show the possibility to synthesize nanoscaled 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) using the Spray Flash Evaporation process. The crystallization of TNT is performed using different solvents. The sizes and the morphology of the TNT particles are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The influence of the solvents depending on their properties is discussed. Hexanitrostilbene (HNS) is used as a growth inhibitor to limit the size of the resulting TNT particles. Finally, nanoparticles with mean sizes of 50 nm are obtained.
