Highlights
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), known as tic doloureaux[1,2], is considered to be one of the most physically and psychologically painful conditions a human being might suffer[1,2]
TN causes an abrupt, searing facial pain that shoots within the distribution of one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve[5]
According to the international guidelines[10] on TN treatment carbamazepine and oxycarbamazepine is recommended as first line treatment based on clinical studies[1,11,12]
Summary
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), known as tic doloureaux[1,2], is considered to be one of the most physically and psychologically painful conditions a human being might suffer[1,2]. MVD was considered to be the best surgical treatment because a neurovascular conflict was identifiable on the MRI and the patient was screened and found to be stable enough to undergo open neurosurgery.
