Abstract

Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) in alcohol was doped in the copolymer of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with methacrylic acid (MAA) by the concentration difference diffusion method. Addition of MAA to MMA improves the solubility of Rh6G molecules in the non-polar MMA, and the photo- and thermal stability of Rh6G in the solid polymer matrix [1, 2]. The absorption, fluorescence emission and the lasing efficiency of P(MMA + MAA) for different MAA compositions were studied and the optimal matrix for effective lasing and laser stability was found at an MAA concentration of 10% [3]. We have already reported the diffusion behaviour of alcoholic Rh6G in PMMA [4]. In this letter we examine the transport properties of ethanol-Rh6G in P(MMA + MAA) at temperatures between 30 and 55°C with an MAA concentration of 1 to 10% by volume.
