Abstract

Odontogenic keratocysts are benign lesions of the maxillo-mandibular region, with high growth potential and, as time passes, significant bone destruction can result. The presence of several odontogenic keratocysts may be associated with Gorlin-Goltz syndrome. Odontogenic keratocysts are usually asymptomatic and are accidentally diagnosed by routine radiological investigations. For the treatment of keratocysts, a decompression with drainage tube, transoral marsupialization or maxillary sinus marsupialization can be performed, but complete surgical excision still stands as the treatment of choice. In recent years, the transnasal endoscopic approach for maxillary sinus keratocyst has become popular, due to its ability to completely remove the lesion, without devitalizing nearby dentition and with a rapid postoperative recovery.
