Abstract

The proposed analytical model is used to calculate the transient operation behaviour of rotating magnetic field motors for direct on line operation. Since the motor's starting performance is of special importance, the influence of inter-bar currents, which mainly occurs in the low speed range, is included in the model. The inter-bar current approach and the torque calculation are presented. The flexible inductance estimation and the approaches to account for iron saturation and skin effect are described. The model is validated in several ways for the case of an induction motor. Comparisons to transient finite element solutions are made for the special case of infinite magnetic permeability, to check the programmed code and the skin effect approach. Afterwards the model is compared to a transient finite element solution with non linear magnetic permeability to validate the saturation approach. Finally the model is verified with two measurements. One at a reduced voltage of 100 V and one at the rated voltage of 400 V. The accordance between the calculated and measured results is satisfactory.
