Abstract

This paper is devoted to the comparative study of performance data of a 0.75 kW variable speed electric drive with synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) and induction motor (IM) in a pump application. The experimental data on the IM and SynRM drives efficiency within a wide range of working modes are used to assess the power consumption. The working modes of motors are calculated with the help of nameplate data and the mathematical model of a pump. It is shown that the use of SynRM significantly reduces the power consumption of a pump unit.
