Abstract
Recent advances in technology have prompted increased interest in satellite communication systems using small earth stations either fixed directly at the user premises, as in very small aperture terminal (VSAT) systems, or mobile as in mobile satellite (MSAT) systems. Various countries and consortiums are in the process of developing such systems to provide a variety of communication services. Apart from providing telex-type low-rate data services, these MSAT and VSAT systems are now planned to support voice calls as well as higher-rate data communication applications.
