Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Total Quality Management (TQM) practices on competitive advantage in the Nigerian Aluminum Industry. It examined TQM along four dimensions: visual management; just-in-time management; total productive maintenance; and benchmarking. The study adopted a survey research, through the administration of questionnaires to one hundred and fifty (150) staff of eight selected Aluminum companies. The data were analyzed using regression and Pearson matrix correlation techniques through Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimation technique. The study establishes that intensive TQM practices can strategically contribute towards the realization of significant competitive advantage of the firm. The achievements of Nigerian Aluminum firms through proactive TQM practices have been evaluated and critical TQM success factors known for enhancing the competitive advantage of Nigerian Aluminum firms.
