Abstract
Psychological assessment of alleged victims of torture is essential, either as a full psychological assessment or as a component of a medical assessment. It ensures that they receive the appropriate medical care and legal protection from further harm, and also facilitates access to justice and reparation. Conducting psychological assessments requires skill, sensitivity, empathy, cultural understanding, and competency in interview techniques and a careful exploration of psychological history and torture history.
