Abstract
In this article, we investigate the generation mechanism of torque ripples in induction motors by using theoretical expression of torque ripples and finite element analysis, to obtain useful information of motor designs. By analyzing the time and space harmonics included in the air-gap flux densities, it is revealed that the torque ripple generation mechanism of induction motors is quite different from that of synchronous motors. The proper stator/rotor slot combinations to reduce the torque ripple is also clarified.
