Abstract

Abstract With 8 million deaths worldwide due to tobacco use each year, it is one of the biggest public health problems. Its consumption is a significant risk factor for numerous oral and systemic illnesses. The economy of the nation is impacted by tobacco, as well as the social sphere. A narrative review was conducted to observe cessation techniques of smokers and nonsmokers. Relevant articles published during the study period in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were used in this study. There are a variety of methods for quitting smoking, both for the person and the community. Experts in oral health play a critical role in prevention and assist those who are victims of this abhorrent practice in giving up the habit. Counseling sessions, learning opportunities, and awareness-raising efforts aid in promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle. The provision of services along with accurate monitoring and evaluation are needed for the effectiveness of the programs implemented to decrease the burden inflicted by tobacco.
