Abstract

In the last decades, the green synthesis method of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) has become a main topic regarding the advance of nanoscience for some researchers. In this work, we reported a simple method by a green approach for CuO NPs preparation using Tinospora crispa leaves extract (TLE). This method gives some benefits that are harmless, low cost and simple preparation. TLE was potentially investigated as weak base source, which acts in CuO NPs formation. Furthermore, CuO NPs were characterized by UV–Vis spectrophotometer, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectrophotometry (DRS), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), particle size analyzer (PSA), scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDX) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). FT-IR characterization showed the appearance of –CN functional group that corresponds to alkaloid secondary metabolite compounds of TLE. The typical absorption peak of CuO NPs occurred at 383 nm as confirmed by UV–Vis spectrophotometer. The optical study was determined, which showed that the band gap energy was found to be 1.32 eV. In addition, the XRD pattern was theoretically well-matched to CuO with a monoclinic structure. Finally, the results revealed that CuO NPs have spherical shape with the particle size range of 10–40 nm.
