Abstract
The reaction of hot hydrogen atoms with CDCl3 has been examined. Atoms of known initial energy were generated by photolysis of HI or HBr in the presence of CDCl3, and the probability of the reaction H* + CDCl3 å HD + CCl3 relative to thermalisation determined. The phenomenological threshold energy for the reaction, which is expected to be slightly higher than the true threshold is 34 ± 4 kJ mol−1.
