Abstract

Ever since the Sixth Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly in April 1974 and its Declaration and Action Program for the Establishment of a New International Economic Order (NIEO), there has been much analysis and debate as to the meaning for the developing countries of the Third World of this NIEO. Numerous articles, papers, and reports have addressed such topics as: the possible "de-industrialization" of the advanced capitalist countries, the future of the process of accelerated indebtedness of many Third World countries, etc., all in the context of the so-called "new international division of labor."This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
