Abstract

Alexander Thiele’s anthology on Legitimacy in uncertain times deals with the question of whether we are in a “general and serious crisis of legitimacy in the (western) democratic state” (Thiele, 2019, S. 3). Answers are provided on the theoretical foundations of legitimacy ‒ from a historical, legal and economic perspective ‒, and on the foundation of empirical findings and solutions. The book offers readers interdisciplinary insights into the research of legal, economic and social scientists with the aim of sensitizing for the strengths and weaknesses of democracy.
