Abstract

The TL response as a function of irradiation temperature is a significant parameter for the dating of meteorites with classical methods and of ceramics with the kinetic method of Charalambous and Michael. In the present paper we study the response of pure quartz and of quartz extracted from pottery, in fine and coarse grains as a function of irradiation temperature. The irradiation temperature region examined was from liquid nitrogen temperature up to 250°C with test doses from 1 to 20 krad (10–200 Gy). The results show that the response of pure quartz is dependent on irradiation temperature, while the response of quartz extracted from pottery is nearly independent. The experimental results are discussed using theoretical models.
