Abstract

The advantages and limitations of using programmable logic controllers for vacuum plant are reviewed and it is concluded that they are suitable for many applications. However, they are not widely used, and it is suggested that this is because ladder-diagram programming is unfamiliar to the current generation of vacuum system designers. Examples of such programmes are given.
