Abstract
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of anticorrosive surfacing for the quality of fusion with the base metal and the presence of subsurface cracks is mandatory for use in nuclear, petrochemical and other industries. However, the control of subsurface cracks in holes with a diameter of 42 mm or more is not provided for in the regulatory documentation. The experience of using the UT of anticorrosive surfacing inside cylindrical holes with a diameter from 42 to 440 mm in the forgings of valve blocks of underwater gas production systems is presented below. At the same time, phased arrays were used to control the quality of fusion of anticorrosive surfacing with the base metal, and the diffraction-time method (TOFD) of control by specially developed non-standard asymmetrical ultrasonic beams sensors was used to control the subsurface cracks.
