Abstract

Abstract Recent publications, including literature and the popular press, give evidence of the continued relevance and influence of English, in particular American English, in German. English has tremendous prestige among German speakers, who attempt to elicit certain effects by using anglicisms. that is, loans from English (both American and British). The use of anglicisms appeals not only to language understanding or knowledge as such but also to a feeling associated with English. Because of the continued influence of English in German, the translation of loans becomes a valid field of inquiry. This article discusses an approach to the translation of anglicisms.
