Abstract

A novel tetraoxime 5,6:11,12-dibenzo-2,3,8,9-tetrakis(hydroxyimino)-1,4-dithia-7,10-diazacyclododecane (LH 4) has been synthesized from the reaction of ( E,E)-dichloroglyoxime and S, S″-bis(2-aminophenyl)dithioglyoxime, which has been prepared from the hydrochloride salt of 2-amino-thiophenol and cyanogendi- N-oxide. Mononuclear and polynuclear cobalt(III) complexes of LH 4 were prepared with pyridine together with chlorine ions as axial ligands. In addition, the synthesis of a new polynuclear cobalt complex which contains the bridging BF 2 + was achieved by using a hydrogen bonded polynuclear cobalt(III) complex. The hetero-polynuclear complex [CuCo(LB 2F 4)L′Cl] was obtained by reaction of the BF 2 +-capped cobalt(III) complex with copper(II) acetate. The structure of the ligand and its complexes are proposed according to elemental analyses, 1H and 13C NMR, IR and mass spectral data.
