Abstract

A novel (E, E)-dioxime (H 2L) containing dioxa-trithia macrocyclic moieties has been synthesized from the reaction of 2,3-(4′-aminobenzo)-1,4-dioxa-7,10,13-trithia-cyclopentadecane-2-ene ( 2) which was prepared from 2,3-(4′-nitrobenzo)-1,4-dioxa-7,10, 13-trithiacyclopentadecane-2-ene ( 1) and (E, E)-dichloroglyoxime. Cobalt(III) complex of H 2L was prepared with pyridine together with chlorine ion as axial ligand. The BF 2 + -capped cobalt(III) complex is achieved by the reaction of the hydrogen bridged octahedral cobalt(III) complex with boron trifluoride etherat. This complex was used in the extraction of mercury(II) and silver(I) for a high percentage from aqueous media. The structure of the dioxime and its complexes are proposed according to elemental analysis, 1H, 13C NMR, IR and mass spectral data.
