Abstract
The organic compounds are fused in a nickel bomb with sodium in the usual way. If no oxygen is present, the nitrogen is determined as cyanide by Deniges' method. After destruction of cyanide with formaldehyde the total chloride and fluoride is determined by passing the solution through a cation exchange column and determining total acidity in the eluate. The chloride in the same or a separate eluate is then determined by treatment with mercuric oxycyanide or by titration with silver nitrate.
