Abstract

The paper explores the problem of the influence of cultural institutions on the study of the phenomenon of cruelty in art. It was found that in Europe and the USA research centers at universities and museums are becoming centers of such research, and the study of cruelty is a popular choice of research topics for two or three years. The specified features allowed the event to form mechanisms for combating cruelty and violence, which are successfully used in psychological support and the fight for human rights. In Ukraine, similar scientific and research centers have not yet been opened, so the research continues in the artistic and empirical plane, with the help of funding from European and American funds and sponsorship programs or at the artist’s own expense. This situation causes a lack of communication between individual research artists and reduces the effectiveness of research. The possibility of some gains in understanding the topic of cruelty in the modern Ukrainian context without cultural institutions is substantiated, but such an approach significantly reduces the possibility of a systematic vision and study of the consequences of cruelty in order to combat them and restore them. The researcher-artist form of collaboration is recognized as the most promising.
