Abstract

Convention and visitor bureaus, abbreviated as CVBs, are popular and strategic tourism organizations which are in charge of strategically planning, promoting, managing and marketing destinations. Their activities are broad, and they focus on the event industry which offers CVBs an important role in the implementation and development of business events. Due to this importance, this chapter covers the basics of CVBs, their history and development, their functions and various roles such as coordination of destination marketing activities, image development, information sharing, quality assurance, destination planning, destination value creation, public relevance and visitor product development. The last part of the chapter covers practical implications where the Istanbul Convention and Visitors Bureau is chosen as a case study since it is one of the global leaders in the category.
