Abstract
Improvement in women's status is a cultural process consistent with the progress of human civilization. With the tremendous rise in women's education, women's status throughout the world also improved during this century, as manifested in their political participation, economic life, family structure, and cultural expression. A negative offshoot of women's liberation movement is the sharp conflict between traditional and modern ideas about women as embodied in their dual role as "superwomen" and "dutiful wives and loving mothers."1 People become confused as to whether women's liberation should move forward or backward. They are even not sure whether it is good for women to become "liberated." Some sociologists raised the slogan, "Let women return to the family," which was well received from people in all walks of life.
