Abstract

The influence of precrystallisation annealing on the Curie Temperature (TC) relaxation behaviour of nickel-rich glasses, selected for their low values of TC, has been studied calorimetrically. At relatively low temperatures and short times there is evidence of multimodal relaxation, during which the attainment of equilibrium chemical short range order (CSRO) is concommitant with the annealing out of quenched-in free volume. The reversible nature of the TC response manifested on re-annealing implicitly reflects associated reversible changes in CSRO parameter, (a).
