Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the effectiveness of e-learning as a teaching and learning medium for communication courses. A total of 260 students who took the Communication course were involved in Phase 1 of the study in the first week of the semester, while a total of 189 students were involved in Phase 2 in the last week of the semester. Communication competence is measured based on the Personal Report of Communication Apprehension scale while the effectiveness of the use of e-learning oceania is based on two dimensions, namely attitudes and intentions towards the use of e-learning. The analysis showed that there were significant mean differences for each dimension of public speaking, small group, meeting and regular conversation communication. The study also found that there is a significant relationship between the use of e-learning and communication competence. This study implies that e-learning is an appropriate teaching and learning platform because it is able to improve communication competencies through online activities. In addition, e-learning is appropriate and can be continued in the future by further enhancing some of the latest features in line with current technological developments.
