The reactions of phosphorus- and arsenic-containing multidentate ligands with some iridium complexes. Part VI. The formation of trigonal bipyramidal complexes [Ir(Ph 3P)(L′L 3)

Abstract

Complexes [IrHX 2(Ph 3P) 3], [IrX(Ph 3P) 3] (X = Cl and Br), [IrHCl(C 6H 4PPh 2)(Ph 3P) 2], and [IrCl (Ph 3P)(C 8H 12)] (C 8H 12 = 1,5-cyclo-octadiene) were reacted with ligands (o-Ph 2LC 6H 4) 3L′ (L′ = P and As; L = P and As), L′L 3. The isolation of complexes of the types [IrHX(L′L 3)][BPh 4], octahedral, [IrX (L′L 3)], trigonal bipyramidal, and unusual [Ir(Ph 3P) (L′L 3)][BPh 4], also trigonal bipyramidal, is reported. The proton and phosphorus-31 n.m.r. spectra and the electronic spectra of some of the complexes are recorded.
