Abstract

AbstractThe rate of batch emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride is described by the equation where E is the overall activation energy. The reaction order with respect to the initiator, γ, depends on the type of the termination reaction; the reaction order with respect to the emulsifier, β, depends on the chemical nature of the emulsifier and on the amount of adsorbed emulsifier on the latex particles. The values of the coefficients and of the activation energy are determined for two initiation systems and two types of emulsifier.
