Abstract
ABSTRACTRAPID, an innovative resource-sharing system, is raising the bar on service in Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery departments. Its unique database design, custom routing algorithms, and twenty-four hour turnaround commitment have resulted in an exceptional, dynamic system. RAPID's functionality is not limited to resource sharing but extends to the collection-development arena. The database can be (and has been) used to identify holdings to assist in journal cancellation projects and weeding decisions. Participants enjoy significantly lower costs and very fast turnaround time by using RAPID, and the documented success of these benefits has resulted in the RAPID Expansion Project.
