Abstract

Assimilative nitrate reduction in soil was studied under model conditions. Using 15N labelled nitrate, there could be proved that the nitrates were reduced to organic and ammonia forms if sufficient energetic resources were present. The total extent of assimilative nitrate reduction and the distribution of nitrate-originating N between ammonia and organic N-compounds depended on time and temperature and on temperature alterations.
