Abstract

1. 1. The mean histamine content of mature female Ascaris suum, as determined by both fluorimetric and biological assays, was 100 ng/g wet weight (range of 12 samples, 68–138 ng/g). 2. 2. High levels of histamine were found in intestine (290 ng/g); lower levels were present in the reproductive system (100 ng/g), muscle and nerve (90 ng/g), and perienteric fluid (74 ng/g). 3. 3. The histamine content of immature Ascaris suum was about 60% of that of mature specimens.
