Curator: The Museum JournalVolume 3, Issue 1 p. 5-19 The Preparation of Biological Museum Specimens by Freeze-Drying H. T. Meryman, H. T. Meryman Naval Medical Research Institute National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, Maryland (EDITOR'S NOTE: The present article by Dr. H. T. Meryman describes the introduction of a completely new process for the preservation of zoological and botanical specimens for scientific study, as well as for exhibition. The preparation of specimens by freeze-drying as developed by Dr. Meryman may well mean a revolution in museum techniques that may have a profound effect on methods as practiced in natural history museums. Dr. Meryman is planning an extensive research project in which the freeze-dry method of preservation of biological specimens will be explored in all its practical aspects.
