Abstract

An expression developed from the chimney plume trajectory equation (Moore, 1974) is shown to give a good representation of some limited experimental data on cooling tower plumes at Eggborough. The heat emission term is taken as that from a single tower. Account is also taken of the relatively small temperature difference between the effluent and the ambient air and the low efflux velocity. Interaction between the plumes from adjacent towers and other effects which could alter the sensible heat content of the plumes do not seem to have been important in determining the rise in this investigation.
