Abstract

The chemical composition, crystal structure and dielectric properties of the bismuth-based ceramics have been studied. A single pyrochlore phase was synthesized in the Bi2O3-ZnO-Nb2O5 ternary oxide system. The densification in the final sintering process was systematically investigated by means of relative density measurement and direct SEM observation. The finishing temperature of nearly complete sintered ceramics can be as low as 1040°C. The dielectric results of the resulted ceramics are given for the different processing step. Furthermore, the evaporation of bismuth constitute at or near the surface layer of sintered ceramic body was measured by the thermogravimetric method and electron microprobe analysis.
